In a very short time, ChatGPT has become one of the most fashionable applications on the Internet. But also the focus of a debate on the privacy of the data that the platform manages. For this reason, its developer company OpenAI has released a new update focused on the privacy concepts of the service. The idea is that users have control over how the data generated from their conversations is used with this artificial intelligence chatbot.
One of the great novelties of this latest update is that it will be possible to disable the chat history with ChatGPT. This will allow users to prevent the data from being stored on the OpenAI servers, while conversations with the chatbot can be held without influencing the profile that the system generates about us.
However, the fine print of the announcement indicates that, although the company will not use the conversations to train ChatGPT, it will continue to have temporary access to them, even if the history is disabled. For this reason, experts still recommend against sharing private information with the chatbot.
With this update, all new conversations in ChatGPT after disabling history will be saved for 30 days before being permanently deleted. OpenAI ensures that it will only use them to review them in order to monitor possible cases of abuse in the use of the tool.
Some artificial intelligence experts have pointed out that the incorporation of this new privacy option could be part of a strategy to avoid new regulatory challenges to this type of chatbots.
Let’s remember that ChatGPT itself has already been temporarily blocked in Italy for the unauthorized collection of personal information, later used to improve artificial intelligence.
Disabling ChatGPT history is very simple. To begin, we must go to the lower left corner of our screen, select our username and in the drop-down menu that opens, access Settings.
Once there, the Data Controls option will appear and we will click on Show (Show). Immediately afterwards, a menu will open that will allow us to disable the history and, therefore, prevent our new conversations from being used to train ChatGPT.
Another novelty that comes to ChatGPT is the option to export user data. This will allow you to obtain a copy of everything that OpenAI stores and uses to train its language models.
When requesting the export, a process that is carried out in the same menu as the blocking of the history, those interested will receive a file with all their conversations by email.
