Arrest Made in Colin Brown Murder Case – Latest Updates and Charges Filed
Suspect Charged in Murder of Colin Brown
In a tragic turn of events, one suspect has been arrested and charged in the murder of Colin Brown, a 16-year-old teenager who was fatally shot on Interstate 55 last month in St. Louis while returning home from a hockey game with his father. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office filed charges against 26-year-old Garrett Jordan, including first-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the investigation.
Details of the Investigation
St. Louis Police Chief Robert Tracy confirmed Jordan’s arrest on Thursday, following a significant activity involving local police and FBI agents near the shooting scene. Despite the arrest and charges filed, Tracy acknowledged that nothing could bring Colin back and expressed his hope that it would offer some relief and peace to Colin’s family.
Unraveling the Tragic Events
Colin Brown and his father were on I-55 when he was struck by a stray bullet on November 23. The shooting occurred near Loughborough Avenue as they were driving home from one of his hockey games. Colin fought for his life in critical condition for four days before succumbing to his injuries.
Investigative Breakthrough
The investigation revealed that a vehicle heading southbound on I-55 was shot at after leaving Minnesota Avenue. Through witness accounts and surveillance videos, authorities traced a dark Audi allegedly involved in the incident to an address owned by one of Jordan’s family members. Further evidence linking Jordan to the crime was found through phone location data and cartridge casings found on I-55.
The charges filed against Jordan were the result of extensive collaboration and coordination between various investigative agencies, including the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Illinois State Police, FBI, and DEA. While Jordan has a criminal history dating back to 2017, including a previous gun-related charge, he has denied being the one who fired the shots that led to Colin’s tragic death.
The Brown family expressed gratitude for the efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in the case, emphasizing the importance of accountability for senseless acts of violence like the one that claimed Colin’s life. Mayor Tishaura Jones echoed this sentiment, praising the relentless work of law enforcement in seeking justice for Colin and offering solace to the community in the wake of this heartbreaking loss.
