Duel of Spaniards in the final of the Clausura 2023 tournament of the Mexican soccer league. The ex-azulgranas Jenni Hermoso and Andrea Pereira will fight for the title in a two-game final to be held on June 2 and 5.

Las Tuzas del Pachuca, the team in which the Madrid player plays, beat Rayadas del Monterrey 0-1 this Monday and will seek their first title. The Águilas del América, for their part, led by the Spanish Ángel Villacampa, eliminated the champions Tigres UANL by beating them 0-1 and qualified for their second consecutive final and will go for their second trophy.

Jenni Hermoso arrived in Mexico in June 2022 and her signing became the most important signing in the history of the MX Women’s League and Latin American women’s soccer. Now, after her return to her team last February, she will seek her first title with Pachuca.

Shortly after, in August 2022, Andrea Pereira signed for América from Barça like her former teammate. In the Mexican club he coincided with Ángel Villacampa, former coach of Athletic Club, Levante and Atlético, who landed in the Águilas team in June 2022. Now the players and the coach will face each other in the fight for the league title.

After the goalless tie in the first leg, Viridiana Salazar scored the only goal of the semifinal. Monterrey was the most dangerous squad in the first half, but Esthefanny Barreras, the Tuzas goalkeeper, saved a Christina Burkenroad header in the 10th minute, and a shot from Diana Evangelista in the 33rd.

In the second half, Pachuca reacted in the final stretch. In the 77th minute, Hermoso put a cross to Charlyn Corral, who fought the ball with a defense to shoot on goal but goalkeeper Alejandría Godínez managed to stop the ball. In minute 82, Corral leaked a pass to Salazar, who made it 0-1 before Godinez left.

If Jenni Hermoso’s Tuzas wins the second title, it would tie with América, with Rayadas and Chivas del Guadalajara as the second most winning clubs with two league titles, three less than Tigres.
