Fog and cold will put ten provinces at risk (yellow) this Tuesday with minimum temperatures of up to -7 degrees, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The agency has activated this notice in Granada, Teruel, Burgos, León, Palencia, Zamora, Guadalajara, Lleida, interior of Valencia and southern Cantabria. In all of them, the thermometer will be negative.
In the rest of the country, an increase in maximum temperatures is expected on the coasts of the northwest of the peninsula and the eastern third, even locally notable in the interior of the Valencian Community. The minimums will rise in the northwest of Galicia and in the interior of the northern half of the Levant peninsula. And without major changes in the rest.
According to the agency, the cold will be the trend for this week, especially in the interior of the peninsula, where records are expected to be below normal for the time of year.
The Aemet has also activated the warning (yellow) in Ávila, Salamanca, León Burgos, Palencia, Segovia, Valladolid and Zamora due to fog that will make visibility difficult at a hundred meters and may be locally freezing.
In general, this Tuesday, anticyclonic weather is expected in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands with a predominance of slightly cloudy or clear skies. However, the anticyclone will weaken, allowing at the end of the day the entry of an Atlantic front that will affect the northwest third of the peninsula with cloudy or overcast skies and will leave rainfall in the north of Galicia and Asturias, according to the agency’s forecast.
In addition, a northerly wind is expected in the eastern Mediterranean area, shifting to a westerly component, with a strong wind and north wind intensifying and reaching strong intervals in Ampurdán at the end. It will also blow from southern and western components in the Cantabrian Sea and northern Galicia, tending to strengthen and in the end rolling north with strong intervals.
After the passage of a front in the middle of the week, the anticyclone will once again gain prominence for the Christmas Eve weekend and Monday, Christmas Day. For those days, only some light rain is expected in the north, while in the rest of Spain there will be almost a total absence of precipitation.
Regarding temperatures, the Aemet spokesperson, Rubén del Campo, explains that during the Christmas holidays “very marked changes” are not expected in the nighttime temperatures, while the daytime temperatures could rise, especially in the east of the peninsula and in the Balearic Islands.
