Isolated depression at high levels (DANA) has its hours numbered. The current winter episode, which has forced the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) to activate snowfall warnings in seven autonomous communities in the northern half of the peninsula, will give way this Friday to sunny skies and a thermal rise in most of Spain.
The rise in temperatures will occur gradually and will begin on Friday in some parts of the country, intensifying during the weekend.
Previously, for this Thursday, precipitation is expected in the Cantabrian and northern Iberian Peninsula, the eastern third of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands and, with less probability, in the Central system. They will generally tend to subside at the end of the day, except in the east of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, where they will be more intense and could be locally strong.
Significant snowfall is also expected in the mountains of the extreme north and surrounding lower areas of Catalonia. The agency has activated the yellow warning (significant risk) in the Girona Pyrenees due to accumulations of up to 5 centimeters in 24 hours.
According to the Aemet forecast, today the maximum temperatures will rise in the Canary Islands and decrease in the northern half of the peninsula. The minimums will decrease in a large part of the Peninsula. Therefore, the frosts will gain extension and intensity, covering a good part of the interior of the peninsula except the southwest and the pre-coastal areas, locally strong in the Pyrenees and peaks of the northern half.
The cold episode of these days will give way to a thermal rise in most of Spain. A transition day is expected on Friday. On Saturday, temperatures will tend to increase generally in the Peninsula, with few changes in the rest and very high values ??in the Canary Islands for the time of year. For Sunday, the increase will be pronounced, with values ??above 20 degrees in some points.
Looking ahead to the week of January 22, Aemet models give a high probability that it will be noticeably warmer than normal throughout the national territory and wetter in the Peninsula, western islands and the Canary Islands.
