Spain is experiencing scorching heat that far exceeds normal temperatures for this time of year, according to reports from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). However, you have to prepare for a respite, especially in the Cantabrian Sea, Andalusia or the southeastern interior. Thus, the AEMET anticipates a drop in temperatures for this Monday, October 9 in these areas.

For now, climatic stability is the protagonist in most of the national territory, with mostly clear skies. The exceptions are some intervals of high clouds in the south and west of the peninsula, as well as in the Canary archipelago. In the Cantabrian area, in particular, minimum temperatures will experience an increase this Sunday. In contrast, the maximum temperatures will decrease on the Cantabrian coast and in the coastal areas of western Galicia and southern Andalusia.

It is in this context that the Canary Islands stand out, with temperatures that could exceed 34-36 degrees. Also in the Guadalquivir valley and Huelva, notably high temperatures are expected. On the other hand, in regions such as the northwest of Castilla y León, the maximums will even increase. Simply put, although temperature drops are forecast in certain areas, highs will remain significantly high in other parts of the country.

However, this warm scenario will not last long. AEMET has announced that this Monday will mark a before and after in this heat wave. Temperatures will soften especially in areas such as the Cantabrian Sea and Andalusia, and also in the interior southeast of Spain.

This decline is an encouraging sign for those who have been waiting for a respite from the sweltering heat. But, as the AEMET warns, do not be fooled: in cities like Seville, Toledo and Zaragoza, the heat will still be noticeable, especially in the central hours.

Therefore, the fan does not have to be put away yet. According to the AEMET, and although temperatures will soften in some areas, the heat wave will persist at least until the October long weekend. It is then that, starting next Thursday, a storm is expected to make its entrance to relieve the suffocating heat that has been besieging Spain.

This low pressure system will bring with it not only a drop in temperatures, but also rain that will be especially notable in the northwestern regions of the peninsula. So, while the wait may be long for those longing for cooler weather, there is at least an end in sight to this period of unusually high temperatures.
