Turtles are wild animals that become more vulnerable outside of their natural habitat. Their shell is a particularly delicate area, so it is essential to subject them to a series of care to guarantee their conversation. Sunlight, food and, of course, hygiene, are determining factors in keeping your turtle healthy.

Natural light is necessary so that the turtles can feel at ease. Try, if you have a terrestrial specimen, that it enjoys a dry environment similar to its natural habitat. Contact with the sun’s rays will be beneficial to preserve its shell, so you can release it in the garden or an outdoor area when the weather is good. Water turtles also need to leave the aquarium from time to time, so you can leave it free without fear and take the opportunity to clean it.

A good diet will also affect the care of your turtle’s shell. The terrestrial ones are vegetarians and prefer crumbled food, several doses a day due to their slow metabolism and foods rich in calcium and phosphorus such as spinach, chard or lettuce. Those of water, however, are omnivorous and the more varied their portions, the better!

Hygiene in the shell is essential to prevent dirt from accumulating and your turtle from contracting infections caused by microorganisms. You will only need a container of the right size, a soft toothbrush and fresh water to clean your turtle properly:
