Traffic jams, parking shortages and environmental pollution are some of the great challenges that car manufacturers face when designing the most suitable vehicles to travel through cities safely and efficiently. The start-up called City Transformer knows this well, which has just presented the second generation of its fully electric propulsion city car, which has the uniqueness of being the first adaptive car in the world.
The CT-2 is the evolution of the ecological vehicle prototype that the brand presented in 2021. The second generation of the City Transformer is a proposal halfway between a microcar and a conventional car, but the start-up claims that it offers comfort, safety and the premium experience of an SUV.
Apart from a modern and attractive aesthetic, its strong point is its compact dimensions and the ability to reduce or enlarge them according to the needs of the road or driving style. Hence its apt name: City Transformer.
When driving at higher speeds, such as on interurban roads or large avenues, where greater stability is needed, the CT-2 widens by extending its wheels and the protectors outside the body, reaching 1.4 m wide.
On the contrary, when driving through narrower streets or heading to a parking spot, the wheels retract towards the body of the car, ensuring a minimum width of just 1 meter. The “scissor” doors facilitate parking in tight spaces.
As the CT-2 transforms, the rest of the dimensions remain unchanged: 2.5 m long on a wheelbase of 1.8 m and 1.58 m high. The cabin has capacity for two people in a tandem position.
It boasts of being a comfortable car, having enough space for luggage and incorporating ADAS safety features such as cruise control, forward collision warning system and blind spot warning system. In addition, it is lighter than standard cars, so it has a lower carbon footprint during its production and life cycle.
The new adaptive electric vehicle promises an estimated range per charge of 120 to 180 km, a maximum speed of 90 km/h. It also has front and rear disc brakes, and dual motors with a total of 15 kW of power.
The CT-2 will be manufactured with innovative and ecological materials, such as natural fibers and recycled elements, in order to provide the most sustainable driving experience possible. The official launch is scheduled for June of this year and the vehicle will cost 16,000 euros.
