The orange and reddish skies have taken over the winter sunsets in Catalonia, as can be seen in this series of photographs in La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos captured from different locations.
This is due to the arrebol or candilazo, a meteorological phenomenon in which the clouds in the sky show a wide palette of colors that ranges from pink to the most intense orange.
As part of the phenomenon of dispersion of sunlight, in the morning and afternoon hours, when the sun is closer to the horizon, the light that reaches the Earth is soft tones between red and orange.
These photographs have been taken at winter sunset in Roses, in Alt Empordà, from the marina. In them we can see a spectacular chandelier with shades ranging from orange to the most intense red.
Only a few seconds pass between the images, however, as you can see, the tones between them are not the same, the light quickly fades.
When I captured the snapshots I was walking through the port. Its practically calm waters seemed like a mirror and have reflected this beautiful and striking sunset. Double beauty. Of course, for those of us who enjoy contemplating a beautiful sunrise or sunset, it has been a special day. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the Catalan saying “cel rogent pluja o vent” regarding rain is not going to be true, since this week we are going to have anticyclonic weather.
