Lidl will invest a total of 140 million euros to build its future warehouse located in Martorell. According to what the multinational of German origin dedicated to the supermarket sector said in a statement this Wednesday, it is its “largest logistics investment since it arrived in Spain.” The objective of the operation is “to boost the growth of the company in the northeast of the country.”
The new plant, whose construction works are already underway, will be a logistics platform with a surface area of ??66,000 m2 that sits on a plot of 126,000 m2 located in the Xàmenes industrial sector of the town of Baix Llobregat, which also houses the factory. of Seat vehicles.
It will have a total of 144 docks and its inauguration is scheduled for next year. When completed, it will be one of the largest stores of the supermarket chain “both in Spain and in Europe.”
Lidl currently has another 46,000 m2 warehouse in the Barcelona town of Montcada i Reixac. According to the company, the new one from Martorell “will complement” the first one, which was launched years ago.
“This operation responds to the company’s need to adapt its logistics resources to the sustained growth it has been experiencing,” the company argued. “It will allow it to continue generating local wealth and employment in addition to opening new modern and efficient stores,” Lidl added in its statement.
According to company data, Lidl currently has 120 stores spread across Catalonia. A staff of more than 4,000 employees works there.
It has been three decades since Lidl landed in Spain. In addition to Martorell, the supermarket chain has other expansion plans for its logistics platforms. Specifically, the multinational plans three more warehouses: one in Parla (Madrid), on a 145,000 m2 plot; another in Constantí (Tarragona), occupying a land of 185,000 m2; and a third in Villadangos del Páramo (León), occupying an area of ??158,000 m2. In the case of Constantí, this year a temporary warehouse will be launched in the same municipality until Lidl has its own.
Recently, Lidl opened another warehouse in the town of Escúzar (Granada). Today, the multinational of German origin has a network of 12 logistics platforms spread throughout Spain.
