The Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands has sentenced a man who repeatedly abused the adopted daughter of a friend to two years in prison when the girl was between 7 and 8 years old. The man sexually abused the girl while she lived with her family, who had accommodated him in her house since she had problems accessing housing.
The facts were discovered because the girl changed her behavior radically and began to present symptoms of anxiety and eating disorders. From then on, it was discovered that the man took advantage of living with the minor to touch her genitals. He forced the little girl to sit on him and groped her while her parents were not present.
The family filed a complaint against this man, who was arrested after verifying the events, which occurred in 2015. The man, currently 62 years old, was 53 when he abused the girl and was arrested. The Court has considered him guilty of a crime of continuous sexual abuse and has sentenced him to two years in prison, although he will not go to prison.
The man paid 3,000 euros for moral damages to the minor, for which the court has considered it a mitigating circumstance. The penalty will not be applied if the man does not commit any crime in the next four years. The accused reached an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office to reduce the sentence, since initially they requested six years in prison for the abuse of the minor.
