Following the world premiere of The Asunta Case on Netflix, different television programs and media in general have echoed new details about the crime that shocked our country and that ended the life of the 12-year-old girl Asunta Basterra Porto .
In 2013, Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra decided to murder their daughter and, to try to mislead the authorities, they reported her disappearance. Despite their attempts to confuse the agents and their victim-like attitudes, the Police quickly discovered that they presented incongruent speeches and placed them as the main suspects in the case. The investigation ended and the former couple was formally charged with the crime of murder. They were placed in preventive detention, where they remained for two years.
In 2015, the parents of the murdered girl were tried for the aforementioned crime and sentenced to 18 years in prison. Porto could not withstand the pressure and she committed suicide in November 2020 in her cell. Basterra continues serving her sentence.
As we have already mentioned, the Netflix series has rescued the case from media oblivion and has turned it into a topic of international interest. For this reason, programs like Y Ahora, Sonsoles, TardeAR, Mañaneros… are giving interviews to people close to the ex-couple, fellow prisoners… to try to understand a little better what really happened.
During yesterday’s program, the afternoon show presented by Sonsoles Ónega announced a bombshell news to the audience: they had found the gardener of Teo’s house, the place where Asunta’s life was supposedly ended. The man was a great friend of Rosario Porto’s father, who died just a year before the crime occurred. ”I did the gardens and the pruning. Yes, I knew them both quite well, whether they were married or not. My relationship was with Rosario’s father, with her…”, declared the gardener.
After making it clear that, in his opinion, Rosario was “not very well settled in her head,” the man acknowledged in the Atresmedia space that he coincided with the Galician woman when she went to prison due to a dispute with a man who did not care. pay.
The journalist asked him about how the woman was in prison, a question to which the interviewee answered honestly: ”Well, at first she was very burned out, then she was doing a little better, but they were changing her prison and then I guess …”.
After revealing that Porto was shocked to find him in jail, the worker responded to questions about whether they had had something more than a friendship in a negative way: ”No, no, no. The relationship was previous. I talked and such, but well, we didn’t have all the time in the world either, it was time when you were with her in the infirmary or something…”.
The reporter insisted and even asked him if they slept together, something the man flatly denied: ”No, no, no, not with me. With other people, yes, because they say that, but since my relationship was a work relationship, you can’t mix one thing with the other. Then they accuse her of being in half a prison.”
