The investment of the Generalitat will grow by 56% over the average of the last decade with the new budgets, as announced this Wednesday by the Minister of Economy, Natàlia Mas, after the agreement to carry out the accounts. The figure will be around 3,000 million euros, without taking into account the Next Generation funds, which will increase the figure. The development of infrastructures -the B-40 or “modernizing” the Barcelona airport have been key to agreeing- will be the main focus.

The 2023 budget will have a total of 41,000 million euros, a record figure. The minister, at the inauguration of a new headquarters of Caixa d’Enginyers in Barcelona, ??has highlighted that they have been some accounts “that have fought to be expansive”, which are “very necessary today, in a context of great disruptions and transformations, socially complex”. “The budgets will be the most expansive in 17 years” with an objective of “sustainable growth”, she has influenced her.

Although the announced jump is considerable, in 2022 the initial budget contemplated an investment of 1,398.12 million of which only 31% had been executed in the first ten months of the year.

Regarding more far-reaching changes on the fiscal front, the minister has assured that “now is not the time, we are committed to stability.” Yes, there will be changes with the update of the IRSC, the scale that is used to calculate public benefits, will allow “minimizing the impact” of the delay in the approval of the accounts, “so that it does not affect anyone.”

Everything is waiting for approval in Parliament. Mas herself will be in charge of defending the accounts. The Government is confident of having the budgets approved by the beginning of March. The head of Economy urged to do it as soon as possible to execute them as quickly as possible.
