Just a couple of months ago, Tesla reduced the price of its Model Y electric SUV by about 3,500 euros, but this discount did not last long because Elon Musk’s firm has just announced that, starting next March 22, it will make it more expensive again. . This time it will increase by approximately 2,000 euros in several European countries.

According to Europa Press, the company has communicated this on the social network ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) without specifying in which markets on the Old Continent it will raise the rate. This announcement was made after reporting an increase of 1,000 dollars (1,089 euros) in the price of this same model in the United States.

As Musk explained, this price fluctuation responds to the variation in demand for vehicles. The CEO of the American firm already said in February that it is a necessity that responds to the law of supply and demand. That is, making discounts when reservations drop with the aim of encouraging purchases and vice versa.

Given the new increase in prices, Tesla has urged customers to enter its website to ensure that they have ordered the car at the current price, which in Spain is sold from 42,760 euros.

The Model Y closed 2023 as the best-selling electric car in Spain, with 6,833 units sold, 266.2% more than those sold a year earlier, according to data from the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac).

This Tesla SUV, which offers a WLTP range of more than 400 kilometers, is also the second best-seller so far this year (January and February) with 956 units, behind the brand’s other model, the Model 3.

Tesla had announced in January that its model Y in its access version, with rear-wheel drive and 455 kilometers of autonomy (WLTP) had dropped in price to below 43,000 euros, which included the aid from the Moves III Plan for scrapping a car. old (7,000 euros) could reach a price of 35,760 euros.

With the increase of 2,000 euros, the car can still benefit from State aid because it is available for those electric cars whose price does not exceed 45,000 euros.

The announcement of the increase in the price of the Model Y comes at a time when other brands are betting on lowering prices with the aim of encouraging the market. And the higher rates that electric vehicles have compared to their gasoline equivalents are one of the brakes for consumers. In fact, manufacturers are working to market zero-emission vehicles for less than 20,000 euros.
