Mirenchu del Valle Schaan, general secretary of the Unespa insurance sector employers’ association, will be the next president of the employers’ association, replacing Pilar González de Frutos, who is retiring after 20 years in office.
Sources from the employers’ association in the sector explained that the executive committee has proposed del Valle Schaan this morning as the future president of the Association, an appointment that the members of the organization will have to ratify in the ordinary general assembly to be held on May 4. , in which the governing bodies of the entity will be renewed: the presidency, the executive committee – made up of 18 companies that represent more than 80% of the insurance business in Spain – and the board of directors.
González de Frutos announced in January his resignation to run for re-election and his desire to retire after five terms and 20 years in office. As president of Unespa, González de Frutos is part of the board of the CEOE employers’ association, where she holds a vice-presidency, which will now pass to Del Valle. She is also a member of Endesa’s board of directors.
Mapfre, Mutua Madrileña and VidaCaixa, the three large Spanish companies that hold the three vice-presidencies of Unespa, were in charge of proposing Del Valle and elevating his appointment to the executive committee for the May assembly.
The same assembly will also renew the executive committee in which Mapfre, Mutua Madrileña, VidaCaixa, Allianz, AXA, BBVA Seguros, Caser, Catalana Occidente, Generali, GES Grupo, Ibercaja Vida, Pelayo, Reale, Sanitas, Santa LucÃa, Santander Seguros and Zurich. And the board of directors, of which 33 insurers are part, will also be renewed.
Graduated in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and a master’s degree in Community Law from the Institute of European Studies of the Free University of Brussels, Del Valle has been the General Secretary of UNESPA since 1996, which she joined in 1988 as head of International relations.
The directive meets the condition that the sector requested for the next presidency, and that was that it had, like its predecessor, a very professional profile and dedicated itself exclusively to the management of Unespa, without combining this position with a job in an insurance company.
