Carlos Alcaraz will face Croatian Borna Coric in the semifinals of the Mutua Madrid Open Master 1000, after beating Russian Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-5, the rival with the best ranking (12) of all the Murcians had encountered at the other side of the net during the last week.

The tennis player from El Palmar had to row in the second round, when he placed himself a break behind. Alcaraz signed four games in a row that put him in a position to serve to win. He did so, on the first match point that came his way.

The Murcian, current champion of the Mutua Madrid Open, continues on his way in search of his fourth Masters 1000 title, after those of Miami and Madrid in 2022 and Indian Wells in 2023.

Now, he will face Borna Coric, the 17th seed, in the semifinals of the tournament. The Croatian beat the German Daniel Altmaier without too many problems by a double 6-3 in 75 minutes.

Coric made it to the top eight. Now, he is ranked 20th in the ATP ranking, with three titles behind him, including the Cincinnati Masters 1000 last year. The Croatian has also surpassed himself in Madrid: for the first time, he has reached the semifinals of the tournament, where he competes for the sixth time.

The Balkan tennis player has a new challenge ahead of him, beating Carlos Alcaraz, whom he has never faced and who arrives at one of the best moments of his early career.

The semifinal match of the Master 1000 of the Mutua Madrid Open between Carlos Alcaraz and Borna Coric will be held this Friday, May 5, at 1:00 p.m., on the Manolo Santana court of the Caja Mágica. The match can be seen on television on RTVE and Movistar Deportes and can also be followed live on the La Vanguardia website.
