“A peninsula is an information space surrounded by troubled waters on all sides except one, called the isthmus, which connects with the inland and with other contexts”, with these ironic words the journalist Enric Juliana, attached to the director of La Vanguardia, presented three years ago weeks the Peninsulas newsletter, which can be accessed free of charge by all readers who wish to do so after registering. Peninsulas is being a success that corroborates the renewed interest of readers for this genre: specialized journalistic bulletins, with quality information. In a little less than two weeks, Peninsulas has already reached five digits in the number of subscribers, with an open rate of over 50%. Peninsulas talks about Spain and the world, about the link between domestic and foreign policy, at a historical moment in which the two spheres are more connected than ever, dramatically connected.

Enric Juliana (Badalona, ​​1957) is a journalist with extensive experience, with more than thirty years of work at La Vanguardia, where he has been in charge, among other tasks, of local information, the correspondent in Italy and the Spanish political chronicle. , who has been in charge of writing the newspaper in Madrid since 2004. For months now, the author of Peninsulas , who does not hide a great passion for political geography, has been warning in his articles about the growing dialectic between international events and politics internal. The tensions in the field of energy as a result of the war in Ukraine are a resounding example of this.

The author wants to offer a weekly reflection on this interrelation, while paying attention to the keys to Spanish politics, an informative focus of special interest when we are about to start an electoral cycle of special importance, with three stages: municipal elections and regional elections that will take place on May 28, the general elections scheduled for December, before Christmas, and the European Parliament elections, which will take place in a year from now, in May 2024, and which will test the current correlation of forces within the European Union.
