Despite the fact that the irruption of Artificial Intelligence may have had an impact on expectations about the Metaverse, the educational sector continues to bet on the training of students in this area. This is confirmed by LCI Barcelona, recalling that the Metaverse continues to be key to the future industry and that, for this reason, “student training has to change”.
From this center they assure that the Metaverse will be key in sectors such as fashion and design. And, of course, video games. The development of aspects such as Virtual Reality and the appearance of VR games is an example of how the Metaverse continues to have a dominant position in the most innovative market. For this reason, experts in the field emphasize that “it is a sector that has been growing in recent years” and for which training will have to be reinforced.
“The Metaverse breaks down age barriers. It will not stop growing in the near future, both due to the evolution of technology and the variety of brands that are developing products in this sectorâ€, explains David Carretero, manager of the Animation and Videogames area at LCI Barcelona, school of design and visual arts.
“Just as technology evolves, the training of students also has to change. The development of videogames and animation has always seemed like something far away, but people’s interest exists and the passion to know how these games can be developed, now with the interest in VR, is growingâ€, indicates the professor.
The position is similar in different areas. The Metaverse can be used in sectors such as tourism, sports, art and commerce. Sectors that move millions of euros and that must adapt, like video games, to these new technologies.
Access to this immersive technology is increasing. By means of glasses, the user can enter a virtual world where he sees everything in the first person and abandons the usual third-person gameplay that was done through television. Companies like Sony released their specialized glasses to get PlayStation into VR. Also Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has created glasses like Oculus and Oculus 2. In October 2023, it is also planned to launch the third improved version of the product. The technology that allows them to become protagonists of video games continues to grow.
Virtual reality games are beginning to be considered as the most feasible way for consumers to access the world of the Metaverse. The creation of this virtual environment is in its early stages, but the interest generated among companies and institutions from different industries is growing. The world of video games continues to grow and the development of VR products will be the cornerstone of the sector in the coming years. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg confirmed in 2020 that the sales of these Oculus were higher than expected.
The video game sector moves millions of euros annually both in Spain and internationally. According to data from recent years, the arrival of the pandemic and the impossibility of enjoying other types of leisure encouraged the consumption of video games. A trend that, as LCI professor Carretero explains, is expected to grow with the development of VR games and their immersive technologies.
Video games generated close to 120,000 million dollars in all of 2019, before the arrival of the pandemic. Of that number, 6.3 billion corresponded to virtual reality games, according to SuperData analysis. In 2020, the video game sector benefited with a 20% increase, this time as a result of the pandemic and confinement.
With regard to Spain, the numbers published by the Spanish Association of Video Games estimated at 1,795 million euros those generated by the sector in the country in 2021. An amount greater than the 1,747 million of the year 2020 and that of 2019, where 18% lower figures were generated with 1,479 million euros.
