A young man, whose age has not been specified, has drowned in the El Carpio de Tajo reservoir (Toledo), into which he threw himself when fleeing from the Civil Guard, after having tried to rob a tobacconist in the Toledo town of San Martín de Pusa, together with four other young people who were able to swim out of its waters.

As reported by the Civil Guard this Sunday, the events occurred last Friday, when the five young people, three of them minors, jumped into the waters of the reservoir trying to flee from the agents who were chasing them, after having tried to rob the tobacconist 12:00 p.m.

The Civil Guard learned of the attempted robbery and alerted the patrols in the area that the perpetrators had been at least four young people, who had fled in a blue vehicle.

The vehicle was detected by agents from the Malpica de Tajo post (Toledo), who began their pursuit, to which patrols from the posts of the Toledo municipalities of Hinojosa de San Vicente, El Carpio de Tajo and La Puebla de Montalban.

Upon arriving at the Ronda hermitage, in El Carpio de Tajo, the five young men abandoned the vehicle and continued to flee on foot, pursued by the civil guards, until they threw themselves into the waters of the reservoir to avoid being captured by the agents.

Four of them were able to swim out with the help of the agents, but the fifth began to sink and finally drowned, despite the fact that three of the civil guards dived in to try to help him, but they were unable to due to the depth and the depth. water turbidity.

After his disappearance in the water, a search operation was activated in which agents of the Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Bajadoz Civil Guard Command, firefighters and civil guards participated, and a medicalized helicopter was also activated and an ambulance.

Finally, the GEAS agents recovered the body of the deceased, which was transferred to the Toledo Institute of Legal Medicine for an autopsy, the Civil Guard has indicated.

The five alleged perpetrators of the attempted robbery, between the ages of 19 and 15, have numerous police officers and two were in search and re-admission to a juvenile center.

Three of the four who managed to swim out of the reservoir, have been placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office as alleged perpetrators of an attempted crime of violence and intimidation, the same as that charged to the fourth detainee, who has been placed at the disposal of a Court of First Instance and Instruction of Torrijos (Toledo).
