Manchester City was finally proclaimed champion of the Champions League. After chasing him for a long time, Pep Guardiola achieved the only title that resisted him with the citizen team and entered the football history books. The Catalan coach is the first coach in the world to have managed to win two triplets, the one he managed to manage FC Barcelona and the one that culminates tonight in Istanbul with Manchester City.
The party was not placid. Inter managed to slow down the favorite for a good part of the game and only Rodrigo, with a goal half an hour from the end, managed to unblock the game. A goal with which he will make history at City, giving him his first Champions League.
Seikh Mansour bought Manchester City in 2008. Since then, there have been few occasions on which he has been seen in the box during a game. The last time was in 2010, in the 3-0 win against Liverpool. 13 years later, Mansour witnessed the Champions League final in the Ataturk box dressed in the City scarf.
The match couldn’t have started worse for City and Kevin de Bruyne. The Mancunian footballer had to leave the field of play after suffering a muscle injury half an hour into the game. De Bruyne tried to prove himself, but he couldn’t continue and Phil Foden replaced him in the 35th minute. In the 2021 Champions League final he also couldn’t finish the match after suffering a severe blow to the face in a clash with Rüdiger.
Inter knew how to contain Manchester City well, but after the hour of the game Rodri appeared to score the 1 to 0 and unleash the euphoria in the citizen box. Guardiola’s team had to resist for another half hour to be able to celebrate the expected victory.
