Real Madrid “has reached an agreement with Facundo Campazzo whereby the player is linked to the club for 4 seasons, until June 30, 2027,” according to the club’s official statement. Although it was an open secret for weeks, the signing of the Argentine (32 years old) has been waiting due to the so-called ‘fringes’ of the contract, which have finally been resolved.
The point guard and the white club seemed “doomed” to understand each other from the moment the player left the NBA, although he had to make a kind of “technical stop” at Red Star Belgrade for half of the past season, especially for financial reasons of the player related to the payment of taxes in Spain.
Campazzo left Real Madrid in November 2020 after signing a two-year contract with the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and in July 2022 he became a free agent at the end of his contract with Colorado. On October 12, 2022, he reached an agreement with the Dallas Mavericks to continue in the NBA for one season at minimum wage. After 8 games with the team, averaging 1.3 points, 1.1 assists and 0.8 steals in 6.5 minutes, he was released by the signing of Kemba Walker.
Although Madrid was in contact with the player, Red Star was the team that took over his services, due to the financial conditions they offered him. Campazzo returns to Real Madrid to face his second spell at the club, with which he has won 11 titles: 2 European Cups, 3 Leagues, 2 Copas del Rey and 4 Spanish Super Cups.
On an individual level, defending the Real Madrid shirt, Campazzo has been chosen twice in the ideal five of the League (2018-19 and 2019-20), once MVP of the final playoff of the League (2018-2019), twice MVP of the Super Cup (2019 and 2020) and again MVP of the Copa del Rey (2020).
With the Argentine national team, he has won 8 medals: 3 Gold (2012 South American Championship, 2019 Pan American Games and 2022 AmeriCup), four Silver (2014 South American Championship, 2015 and 2017 AmeriCup and 2019 World Cup) and a Bronze (2013 AmeriCup). In addition, he has been chosen in the best five of the AmeriCup in the 2013, 2017 and 2022 editions.
Campazzo will face his sixth season at Real Madrid, and although the economic conditions have not been revealed, they can be around 12 million euros gross until 2027. In addition, the player will have to finish paying his exit clause to the NBA, which would be missing between two and three million euros.
