Super Mario will no longer have the same voice. Nintendo has announced that the dubbing actor Charles Martinet will stop lending his voice to this, and other characters from the Japanese company, as he has been doing for more than three decades.

The Kyoto-based company has released the news through a statement on social media. In this it is detailed that Martinet, born in San Jose (California) 67 years ago, will continue to be linked to Nintendo and “will go on to play the new position of ambassador of Mario.”

“Charles Martinet has been the original voice of Mario in Nintendo games for a long time, since Super Mario 64,” Nintendo states in its message. “With this change, he will no longer voice characters in our games, but he will continue to travel the world to share the joy of Mario and interact with all of you!”

The interpretation and energy that Martinet has given to Mario and other Nintendo characters, such as Luigi, Wario or Baby Mario, is known throughout the world because the dubbing of the Super Mario series is international, that is, there is only one dubbing for everyone.

“It has been an honor to work with Charles to bring Mario to life for all these years, for which we want to thank him and pay him a sincere tribute,” can be read in the brief statement from Nintendo. In addition, the Japanese company has announced that “in the future” a “special message” from Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, and Martinet will be published.

The first Super Mario video game to feature the voice of Charles Martinet was the emblematic Super Mario 64, the title released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64 console that marked the Italian plumber’s great leap into 3D. However, a few years before, Martinet had collaborated with Nintendo, giving the character a voice at different fairs. Since then he has participated in dozens of video games of the character, although it is unknown if he will also be present in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the next adventure for Nintendo Switch that will go on sale next October.

As curious facts, Charles Martinet spent part of his childhood in Barcelona, ??something that allows him to speak Spanish perfectly, as can be seen in this interview conducted on the specialized Eurogamer portal. Likewise, he also had a small cameo in the recent Super Mario Bros.: The Movie, where actor Chris Pratt was in charge of lending his voice to the character.
