The Area of ??Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility of the Madrid City Council affirmed yesterday that the agreement with the residents of Montecarmelo for the location and conditions of their cleaning canton is “unviable”, after the eighth meeting between the delegate of the Area, Borja Carabante, and the delegate councilor for Cleaning and Green Zones, José Antonio Martínez Páramo, with the Montecarmelo Neighborhood Platform. About 20,000 people live in this neighborhood and they refuse to allow the facility to be implemented in the aforementioned neighborhood in the north of the capital.
As explained by sources from the Urban Planning Area, the neighbors reiterated “their position that the canton be taken to another neighborhood”, an “extreme that is not possible to accept” for the Consistory, since this facility will be located in this neighborhood to provide a service to it.
The delegates, according to the same sources, also argued during the meeting that the proposed location is the one that “municipal technicians consider the most appropriate,” and informed them that “the City Council is committed to creating a park in the neighborhood.”
On the other hand, from the Urban Planning Area they pointed out that the platform itself “is also unable to reach an agreement among its own members”, and recalled that a similar problem occurred in the Vicálvaro district and an agreement was reached.
Finally, they regretted that in this case the agreement “is unviable, since the only proposal that all members of the Platform unanimously accept is to remove the canton of Montecarmelo.”
For this reason, the neighbors have written letters to Feijóo, Ayuso and Almeida due to the lack of understanding with the Urban Planning councilor.
