Nobody hid their feelings after the final whistle. Girona’s well-deserved league leadership spread euphoria in the Girona locker room. “It is a historic day for everyone in Girona. We are leaders and I am very happy for the club because it is committed to an idea and we are growing through it, which is the most important thing. The pity is that it is matchday seven and not matchday 38,” commented Míchel after the match, with a hint of sarcasm but with an unalterable smile. “We are euphoric, the team is doing an incredible job and in the second half we recovered from everything,” added the Girona coach.

Míchel did not spare his praise for his players: “These players have the ambition and mentality to play on these fields and play face-to-face against rivals with as much quality as Villarreal, it makes me feel very proud.”

For his part, captain Aleix García joined in complimenting his team. “We always go on the attack and play very attractive football, there are things that are not a coincidence. We are having a lot of fun and we are bringing the coach’s idea to perfection on the field,” he noted. “We are leaders and I guess it is not normal. We have no other objective than salvation but I think we have a team to achieve more important things,” he certified.
