The arrival of Holy Week in Spain will be marked by a notable meteorological alteration, characterized by the advance of a polar air front that will affect a large part of the country. In this situation, reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), a sharp drop in temperatures and the presence of significant rainfall stands out, which will be the aspects that will dominate the meteorological scenario during these holidays.

The most important novelty is the entry of a system that will bring rain and snowfall to several regions. Although the eastern seaboard will be spared the worst parts, the same cannot be said for the rest of the country.

Thus, after several days of heat, significant accumulated rainfall is expected, especially on the Atlantic slope and in the Pyrenees, with Galicia, the Central system and the mountains of western Andalusia bearing the brunt. In addition, Aemet does not rule out snowfall in other important mountain systems, including the Pyrenees, where significant amounts of snow could accumulate.

As the week progresses, the outlook will become even more complicated with a sharp drop in the snow level, which could reach 800-1,000 meters as of Monday afternoon. This will cause snowfall in mountainous areas and it is likely that temperatures will drop significantly between Monday and Tuesday, accompanied by frost in high areas and moors in the northern half of the country. The wind, for its part, will change to a westerly component, intensifying throughout the period.

As for the Canary Islands, instability is expected to continue, with slightly cloudy skies and showers, especially in the north of the islands. It is not ruled out that these conditions will extend to the south on Tuesday, at which time a drop in temperatures is also expected, accompanied by westerly winds.

As we approach the halfway point of Holy Week, between Thursday, March 28 and Saturday, March 30, uncertainty will remain. However, Aemet suggests that it is most likely that unstable weather will continue to affect the Peninsula, with the arrival of new fronts that will maintain cloudy skies and rain, the latter less frequent on the Mediterranean coast and more intense on the slopes. Atlantic.

Snowfall will be mainly limited to mountainous areas, while temperatures will begin to rise. Winds from the south and southwest are expected to predominate, which may have very intense gusts.
