Spain is preparing for a Sunday and the beginning of the week marked by adverse weather conditions, as confirmed by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). A significant storm is expected to cause intense rainfall in a large part of the territory starting this Sunday, February 25, along with alerts for gusts of wind in large areas of the Cantabrian Sea and Galicia.

This meteorological phenomenon will be characterized by unstable weather between Sunday and Monday, with strong winds and a sea storm that will mainly affect the north of the peninsula. Precipitation will be a constant in most regions due to a northwesterly air flow, which has already begun to leave its mark with widespread rain and drops in temperatures since Saturday.

The arrival of a new storm threatens to spread across the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, especially affecting the northern half and the southeast, where strong winds are expected. In addition, on Sunday and Monday an orange warning has been declared for waves that could reach eight meters in some areas of Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea, as well as yellow alerts for rain, snow and wind gusts of up to 80 km/h in large areas. from the country.

The rains will be especially important in the northwest third and in the Pyrenees, with the snow level rising to 1,200 meters. As Sunday afternoon progresses, rainfall will extend to the Mediterranean area, accompanied by an increase in temperatures, which could reach 20 degrees in several provinces.

The rains are expected to continue on Monday in the southern half, maintaining instability in the Cantabrian Sea, with a drop in temperatures and snow levels, which could be around a thousand meters.

This Atlantic frontal system will leave a complicated Sunday in its path through the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with locally strong or persistent rainfall in the northwest of the Peninsula and the Pyrenees, as well as strong winds on the coasts and mountain areas, and significant snowfall in the Pyrenees.

The sky will be slightly cloudy, although cloudiness will be less abundant towards the southeast. Precipitation will be more frequent in Galicia, northwest Castilla y León and the western Pyrenees, where it could be locally strong or persistent. In the Canary Islands, cloudy skies are expected in the north of the mountainous islands, with the possibility of light rainfall.
