The PP exhibited this weekend in Córdoba all its territorial power, which allows it to vindicate itself as the first party in Spain, since it exercises governing responsibilities over 70% of its population, in twelve of the 17 communities and in the two autonomous cities.
On the banks of the Guadalquivir, Alberto Núñez Feijóo and his barons have redefined the strategy of wearing down Pedro Sánchez, which amounts to accusing the Spanish Government of a double corruption: political, to yield to the “blackmail” of the pro-independence parties and put an amnesty is underway, and an economic one, for the plot that during the hardest time of the pandemic benefited from the collection of commissions for the sale of masks to organizations and institutions led by the PSOE.
“This is beginning to distill a tuff at the end of the cycle”, affirmed yesterday the president of the Board of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, in the speech that preceded that of Feijóo in the presentation of the declaration of Córdoba, which is also a “manifesto for a plural Spain of free and equal citizens” in which the PP has shaped its proposals to promote measures based on “cooperation and dialogue” from the autonomies it manages against “the imposition and invasion of powers” which attributes to the Central Executive.
In this way, the regional presidents of the PP undertake to offer free education between the ages of zero and three, advance in the development of common school curricula applying in each subject the criteria of the respective royal academies, give homogenous coordinates in the university entrance exams, establishing a common framework for the vaccination calendar… and thus up to twenty initiatives with the aim of bringing the national territory together and guaranteeing the equality of all citizens.
But where more concreteness is not achieved is in the autonomous financing model, a point that is dismissed with the demand for a “fair system” in the face of the evidence that all governments assume the provision of essential services such as health, education or social policy, which is why the distribution of resources cannot be the subject of “partisan or electoral marketing”. Thus, the PP defends the principles of solidarity, sufficiency, transparency and fiscal co-responsibility, with the aim of “guaranteeing at the same time the fiscal autonomy of communities and equal opportunities for Spaniards in accessing public services”, but taking into account the different interests of the territories, very different due to their geographical and socio-economic conditions that they govern, it does not set a proposal but urges the central government to raise its own after “an appropriate debate in multilateral forums, not as a counterpart particular to any bilateral and opaque negotiation”.
To “plural Spain”, a phrase that has traditionally been used by the coalition government of the PSOE and Sumar and which is now assumed by the PP in the same subtitle of the Córdoba declaration, Feijóo referred to the closing act of the meeting, in which he praised one by one the 14 regional presidents (vice-president, in the case of the Canary Islands) of his party and put them as an example of the “responsible autonomy” that he defends, which “strengthens the nation ” instead of “dividing” it like separatism. And this is the case even when there is “legitimate competition” between communities, which “benefits everyone if it is exercised from the point of loyalty”, he argued.
“We are here for this Spain”, continued the popular leader, who did not allude to the five communities where the PP does not govern (Catalonia, the Basque Country, Navarre, Asturias and Castilla-La Mancha) and where it needs to improve the his electoral results, especially in the first two, to oust Sánchez de la Moncloa, “a president who abdicates his responsibilities” and “does not govern”, denounced Feijóo, because “he accepts his status as a delegate of independence” .
Although this legislature “will be as long as the profit that Sánchez’s partners want to make” and will last until the independentists “get tired” and abandon it “in ostracism and indignity”, the PP hopes that it will be short and believes that the Government of Sánchez “will fall for the same reasons, lies and corruption”, for which, said Feijóo, he came to power following the motion of censure.
