There was the flag, or more main gun barrels and, not least, a long-awaited reunion with family and friends at the port in Antigua in the Caribbean, as the Danish Lasse Hansen, Mikkel Schmidt, Michael Heather and Anders Nørregaard in the night Danish time passed in the country after having rowed across the Atlantic ocean.

The four together constitute the team Row For the Veterans in the rowing competition in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, and in a first-class rowboat, they have struggled to cross an ocean away.

– The last 37 days on the boat we talked about what we should eat and drink, when we come in the country, but most of all, it has been about to come home to our loved ones. They got us to come home, says Anders Nørregaard after the arrival to the Caribbean.

the Team gathered out from La Gomera in The Canary Islands in december, and they traversed the nearly 5000 mile long trip in 37 days, 11 hours and 32 minutes.

It makes them the fastest Danish rowing boat to cross the ocean – even in spite of hard weather conditions.

Among other things, had the team a single time to throw the sea anchor, which you can normally only take in use under very rough seas in order to increase control and safety.

Also, they were hit by a 15 meter high wave that took their oars with him.

the Trip, however, was not pure suffering and misery.

– It was fantastic. We saw some incredible wildlife, and we had seven or eight delfinflokke, who swam with us – and also whales and a blue marlin, says the team captain Lasse Hansen, who also took part in the race last year.
