An man found shot and injured last week in an Allentown parking lot reportedly told officers he was wounded after three men tried to rob him.

Allentown police, however, said Kornelle Davis was one of two men who tried to rob a man on the street, and that Davis was wounded after shooting the true robbery victim.

Davis, 21, of the first block of North Eighth Street in Allentown, was arraigned Monday night on a charge of robbery with seriously bodily injury. He was sent to Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Seconds after police were called for shots fired at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, an officer saw Davis stumble away from the front door of the PennDOT building at 1712 Lehigh St., and then stumble into the parking lot of the Queen City Diner.

Davis had a gunshot wound to his left side of his chest, and he was wearing black pants, a black shirt, a black ski mask pulled below his chin, and black gloves, according to police. Officers found a second man with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder.

An officer drove an ambulance while EMS worked on Davis as he was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township, police said. The second injured man was also taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police checked the PennDOT doorway, and found a loaded, silver .22-caliber Ruger handgun, police said.

The man shot in the shoulder told police two armed men tried to rob him as he was walking away from the Queen City Diner. One man was wearing a black mask and had a long silver handgun, later identified as Davis, and the second robber had baggie jeans, short hair and a handgun, police said.

The victim reported the robber in the mask took money from the victim’s pockets and then hit the victim repeatedly in the head with the gun.

The victim scuffled with both robbers, according to police, and was able to disarm the second robber before being shot by Davis, police said. The victim returned fire, shooting Davis, police said.

Police found a 9 mm bullet and a 9mm casing, as well as two .22-caliber casings in the 1900 block of 17th Street.

In an interview with officers, Davis initially claimed three men tried to rob him and he was shot as he tried to run away, police said. When confronted, Davis allegedly told police a friend named “Dev” called him about doing something that would give Davis money and a gun. Davis claimed he got out of his girlfriend’s car and was shot in the chest, police said.
