For many Spaniards, flirting online was a great tool last year. As reported by GfK DAM with data collected during 2023, more than four million Spaniards used different applications to find love.
The most used applications were Tinder, which led with more than 1,578,742 million users; in second place, Badoo, which had around 911,547 people looking for a partner, and in third place, Grindr, which attracted 484,687 individuals. This app is very popular and specific for gay and bisexual men.
GfK DAM has recorded overwhelming differences regarding the gender of registered users in the applications. The total number of men (2,833,371) clearly surpassed that of women (1,220,469). Also men, with 4 hours and 33 minutes, spend more time on the applications on average monthly than women, who spend 2 hours and 30 minutes on these apps each month.
The report does not give any clues as to why men are more present on dating apps. What is clear is that the portals have evolved and specialized and have also focused on creating a safe environment for women.
The applications have become popular among young people and adults aged 25 to 44, with 1.5 million people out of the total 4 million using these platforms. Despite their popularity among millennials, not everyone finds these dating apps attractive. Older people are less likely to register, while members of Generation Z have other resources.
Another aspect that GfK DAM has determined is that officials are the most active monthly among those registered, with 407,000 users. They are followed by workers in the tourism, hospitality and commerce sectors (345,000 users) and also sales professionals (324,000 registered).
The GfK DAM report shows the stability of digital consumption throughout the year, with figures above four million monthly users. However, digital habits are not the same throughout the country. Murcia, Balearic Islands and Madrid are the autonomous communities where people are most similar to the use of dating applications. While Navarra (6 hours and 13 minutes) and Gran Canaria (5 hours and 25 minutes) are the communities where their inhabitants spend the most time monthly.
Although dating search platforms arrived more than 20 years ago, their popularity has only grown among the population, making it clear that flirting is one of the favorite activities in Spain.
