The controversial law of the PP and Vox to regularize illegal irrigation in Doñana continues to generate reactions against it. On this occasion, that of the environmental organization SEO/BirdLife, which has presented this Wednesday in the Andalusian Parliament more than 146,000 signatures to request the suspension of the proposal.
This controversial text, which has provoked regional, national and international reactions and which is currently being processed, provides for an expansion of irrigation in this area of some 750 hectares, according to a letter sent by the Board to the EU in February.
Carlos Molina, a technician from the SEO/Birdlife Office in Doñana, has warned in statements to journalists before delivering the signatures in the Parliament register, that the effects of global warming have placed this natural space in a situation of ” unprecedented crisis” in terms of biodiversity.
There are many who add to the idea that the bill is not viable. Thousands of people joined these signatures last weekend, who demonstrated in Seville against the initiative, and have also spoken out against international organizations, the Doñana Participation Council, scientists, the Government and Brussels.
“We need a change in the production model that guarantees the survival of Doñana, at least in the medium term. The park is undergoing an absolute crisis that represents the last call,” Molina argued to the media gathered in the Andalusian Parliament.
The conservation organization has sent a letter to the president of the Parliament, Jesús Aguirre, detailing this situation and demanding that the Andalusian government of the PP “comply” with national and European laws and protect Doñana.
“If the bill is paralyzed, Doñana will not be automatically condemned,” said the SEO/BirdLife technician, who remarked that the “illegal areas” in the park are joined by “accused overexploitation.”
