Given the “shocking” data on sexual assaults, the Mossos d’Esquadra body has announced the creation of a Unit against sexual assaults focused on prosecuting the aggressors and that it will be “hyper-specialized” and focused on repeat offenders. Currently, the police force is monitoring a thousand sexual offenders and 13 of them are at high risk of recidivism.

In this new strategy in the fight for the prevention of sexual violence that the Minister of the Interior of the Generalitat, Joan Ignasi Elena, together with the spokesperson for the Mossos d’Esquadra, Montserrat Escudé, presented this Thursday, detailed the creation of this new unit, which will be made up of two UCAS (1 and 2) in addition to an intelligence control unit focused on repeat offenders. Investigators, specialists in victim care or data analysis will join forces for the cause. Among the tasks of this “hyper-specialized” unit that focuses on the aggressor, as explained by Escudé, is the control of released prisoners.

Minister Elena has denounced that “it is not acceptable” in a society that women “suffer the attacks they suffer”. For this reason, the new strategy is focused on “intensifying the pressure and firmness against the aggressor”, she has explained.

In the first half of this year, 2,063 events have been reported, which is 16% more than in the same period of 2022, and 2,412 people have reported being victims, Escudé has detailed. At present, a thousand aggressors are monitored
