The Mossos de Esquadra are investigating the violent death of a 36-year-old man inside a house on the outskirts of the municipality of Cantallops, in the Alt Empordà region.

As reported by the Catalan police this Friday, around half past ten in the morning the Mossos d’Esquadra have received a notice to go to a house in that town, where a person was allegedly dead.

Inside the house, he has located the lifeless body of a man, who showed signs of violence. The victim would have died from a shot to the chest, according to the Catalan News Agency (ACN).

The house in which the body was found is an isolated house, located on the outskirts of town, on the road that leads to the neighboring town of La Jonquera.

The Criminal Investigation Area (AI) of Girona has taken charge of the case and has activated the judicial committee, while the forensic doctor has certified the death.

The case has been taken over by the Investigating Court of Figueres (Girona), which has decreed the secrecy of the proceedings.

The mayor of Cantallops, Joan Sabartés, points out that the victim was not registered in the municipality. She was not a person who lived in town either. Some information indicates that the house was rented to the brother of the deceased, but the victim currently lived in it.
