The couple arrested for the alleged purchase of a baby from a young woman who had just given birth at the Don Benito-Villanueva Regional Hospital (Badajoz) was trying to “help” a friend who did not have a health card to be treated, according to the lawyer Angel Luis Garcia.
In statements to the media at the gates of the courts of Don Benito (Badajoz), the lawyer has denied the crime of simulation of childbirth and alteration of paternity attributed to them by the National Police. He has insisted that “it has been a birth in Spanish territory by a Romanian citizen who did not have Social Security and has used a friend’s”.
The lawyer has indicated that the statement of the alleged father in which he recognized the agents who had paid the amount of 2,000 euros in Romania to buy the newborn, according to the National Police, is “null” because there was no lawyer present.
The baby’s mother, a 28-year-old girl, is still in the hospital and, according to the lawyer, when she went to take her statement, she fainted. “It’s very soon after giving birth,” she said.
The lawyer has denied the collaboration of the fourth person arrested, a 30-year-old boy, brother of the detainee, and that it has been proven that an economic amount was paid for the baby.
She explained that the young woman who gave birth has come to work in Spain and that her husband will soon do so. The lawyer has assured that the detained couple has a daughter after undergoing in vitro fertilization.
