PARMA, Ohio – Paczki Day is Tuesday, AKA Fat Tuesday, and Rudy’s Strudel in Parma is preparing by making thousands of the paczki.

Today, cleveland.com is stopping by Rudy’s ahead of the Paczki Day celebrations to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the Polish treats are made.

Social media coordinator Maura Zurick will be on scene around 11 a.m. adding to our Snap story (username: clevelanddotcom), and posting pictures and videos to our Twitter account and Instagram account.

For those who don’t know what paczki are, they’re basically Polish donuts and can be stuffed with sweet or savory filling.

Traditional fillings were prune, poppyseed and jelly, but now bakeries offer dozens of flavors. The Polish sweet-treats are popular before Lent, which starts Wednesday.

So how do you pronounce that Polish word? It’s definitely not PATZ-key or PATCH-key. POONCH-key or PUUNCH-ki are probably the most accurate.
