A Long Island company wants Rihanna to kiss off because the singer’s new fragrance infringes on their trademark.
Kiss Nail Products has been using the word “Kiss” to promote its nail and beauty products since 1989, and the Port Washington business wants the “Umbrella” singer to stop using the same word to promote her “Kiss by Rihanna” perfume.
Kiss Nail claims the moniker is going to confuse consumers, who shell out $60 for a 3.4 ounce bottle of Rihanna’s scent at Macy’s.
The crooner has been promoting “Kiss by Rihanna” on social media with the hashtag #kiss, complains Kiss Nail, which says Rihanna’s Roraj Trade LLC has ignored its request to stop using the name.
It’s not the first time Rihanna’s trademark efforts have sparked problems: born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, DC Comics complained in 2015 that her efforts to trademark “Robyn” were too similar to Batman’s sidekick, Robin.
Kiss Nail Products is seeking unspecified damages from Roraj Trade, and wants the songstress to stop selling “Kiss by Rihanna.” A lawyer for Roraj didn’t return a message.
