A 63-year-old woman of British nationality has been murdered this morning in Orihuela (Alicante) in a case that points to gender violence. The victim had received several stab wounds.
The 69-year-old husband, the alleged perpetrator of the stabbing, has been arrested and is hospitalized for a stab wound to the abdomen.
The man appears in the Viogen database for a case that was opened ex officio by the Civil Guard in 2019 but was inactive the following year due to the lack of a complaint by the victim, the woman who died this Sunday, as reported the Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé.
At that time, no judicial measures were launched and the case was inactive in 2020, explained the delegate.
Information is being collected on this murder, which points to a case of sexist violence, according to Bernabé. If confirmed, the number of women murdered by gender violence would rise to 11 in 2023 and 1,195 since 2003.
This morning, around 4:00 a.m., the Civil Guard received a phone call from a neighbor and the agents went to the home of a couple of British nationality, in Orihuela Costa, where they found the woman dead after receiving several stab wounds.
The 69-year-old man has been arrested and is hospitalized for a stab wound to the abdomen.
The couple had resided in Spain since 2017, according to sources of the investigation.
