JERSEY CITY – A Jersey City woman charged with burglary, theft and extortion Saturday in a Hoboken incident was already under indictment in an attack in which a man was stabbed in the neck with an umbrella in Jersey City.
Barbara Laluz, 29, of Marin Boulevard in Jersey City, is charged with “jabbing an umbrella through the neck” of the victim and piercing his thyroid gland in the Oct. 25, 2015, incident.
She is also charged with a weapons offense related to the umbrella in the indictment which was signed in April 2015 but she was never arrested on the charges, officials said. Probable cause for the charges is listed as the identification of Laluz by the victim, the complaint says.
Laluz was informed of the indictment when she appeared in Criminal Justice Reform Court in Jersey City on the new charges yesterday via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny.
At the hearing, the state moved to detain Laluz pending trial and she will have a detention hearing on Thursday before Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale.
