Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency in Eivissa have seized 875 kilos of hashish after a movie chase along the island’s roads. A semi-rigid boat, which was transporting almost a thousand kilos of drugs for distribution on the island, was detected at dawn by officials. The boat left the material in Cala Xuclar and that is where the operation began.
The officials were traveling aboard the ‘Colimbo IV’ patrol boat, which at that precise moment was conducting surveillance operations in the area, on the night of February 23, the date on which the operation took place. The patrol boat detected a high-powered SUV in the area and observed that bales were being moved in the cove, for which reason it was immediately suspected that it could be a drug trafficking operation.
The patrol boat immediately requested support from all Customs Surveillance units, which immediately went to the scene. The SUV, in which the drug bundles had already been loaded, fled as soon as it verified that he had been detected. Investigators began a chase around the island behind the large vehicle, which was also traveling at high speed.
He was finally intercepted and the agents who participated in the operation discovered that he was loaded with 25 bales of approximately 35 kilos of hashish each. At that time, its driver was arrested for drug trafficking and 875 kilos of drugs were seized.
The semi-rigid boat that made the stash could not be intercepted after fleeing the beach. She managed to flee when she verified the presence of the Customs Surveillance services. For this reason, the investigations are still open and more arrests are expected in the coming days.
