CLEVELAND, Ohio – After a stint abroad, John Thompson, artistic director of FiveOne Experimental Orchestra, is ready to eat Cleveland alive. His words.
Only eating isn’t on his schedule. What Thompson and FiveOne are actually poised to do this week is drink the city, with a concert aptly titled “Homebrew.”
“This one will be grandiose,” said Thompson playfully.
As its title suggests, “Homebrew” involves beer. Specifically, beer produced by Cleveland’s own Market Garden Brewery, host of the concert.
Perhaps less obvious is the show’s musical content. Like the beverages, the program itself is Cleveland-born, in that all six of its featured composers reside in or hail from Northeast Ohio.
On tap this Saturday: works by Buck McDaniel, Jonathan Sokol, Christopher Lee, Kevin Krumenauer, Tracy Mortimore and Jeremy Allen. They’ll have new works for a chamber ensemble consisting of flute, clarinet, guitar, piano, violin and bass.
Here are the nuts and bolts. Or rather, the hops and the yeast.
