A Des Plaines man who died in a motorcycle accident Wednesday in Hanover Park is remembered as dedicated father who loved his two daughters. John Baske, 57, was thrown from his motorcycle after striking a curb on the 1700 block of Lake Street about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said. Baske was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates and later airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead, Hanover Park police Deputy Chief Andy Johnson said.
Baske is survived by his daughters, Christina Baske, 26, and Nicole Baske, 21.
Christina said the family property near the lake in Spooner, Wisconsin, was her father’s “happy place.”
“We had tons of great memories, and so many of them are from our cabin,” she said. “Me and my sister were everything to him.”
She also told friends via Facebook of his love for fishing, cooking and Matbet his motorcycle. He also was a handyman, she said; “He could fix anything.”
Baske also is survived by three sisters and one brother.
DuPage County Accident Reconstruction authorities haven’t determined Baske’s speed before the crash or reasons he hit the curb, Johnson said. Baske had just turned left onto Lake Street from County Farm Road when he crashed, Johnson said.
