Proud of its partnership with EcoEscuelas, an organization that helps schools reduce their environmental impact and drive initiatives to create a more sustainable campus and community. In October 2023, ASB officially received its Green Flag status as an official EcoSchool, being one of the few international schools in Spain to obtain this distinction.

This collaboration means a strategic alliance with an organization that shares your passion for sustainable educational practices. Following the EcoSchool model, ASB created an Eco Team in 2019 made up of students, teachers, administration and parents, which carries out environmental audits and action plans for its sustainability.

Through EcoEscuelas, the center has initiated a comprehensive plan to transform the campus into a sustainable center that includes various actions.

Energy efficiency: Implementation of technologies to reduce your carbon footprint, such as LED lighting throughout the campus, insulated windows or 200 solar panels.

Waste management: general waste reduction strategies (food, single-use food packaging, use of photocopiers/printers) and recycling programs.

Green spaces: new outdoor dining areas, promoting biodiversity and creating a harmonious environment.

Water conservation: water saving measures, installation of bottle refills and raising awareness about the importance of responsible use.

The commitment to sustainability goes beyond the borders of the campus. ASB actively participates in community-driven initiatives including:

Educational workshops and communications to students, staff and parents to delve deeper into environmental issues and inspire sustainable practices.

Community cleanup campaigns to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Preservation programs for the Iberian lynx, an endangered species adopted as a pet by ASB.

Advocacy programs that train students to be advocates for sustainability in their communities.

ASB’s commitment goes beyond physical initiatives; Its goal is to make sustainability part of everyday conversations within the school community. Regular forums, debates and events on environmental issues ensure that sustainability remains at the forefront of the collective consciousness.

“As an international school, we are proud to lead this movement, setting an example for future generations,” says Mark Pingitore, head of school. “Our collaboration with EcoEscuelas is a testament to our commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future. By incorporating green practices into our daily operations, we are confident that our school will continue to be a catalyst for positive change. “We aspire to forge a future in which our students excel academically and become responsible global citizens dedicated to preserving our planet.”
