They were going to be just a few minutes out of the taxi to make some personal efforts. That apparently innocuous moment was when a taxi driver from Zaragoza took the opportunity to leave with the 50 euros that the client had left him as a guarantee of his return and his suitcase, which contained various personal belongings and cash for an amount of 1,200 euros. .

Arrested later by the police for misappropriation, the driver of the vehicle says he abandoned the luggage several blocks away next to a trash can.

The events took place at dawn on February 24. The complainant called the taxi service around 12:30 a.m. from the Delicias intermodal station to go to Conde Aranda street in the city, where he asked the taxi driver to wait for him for a few minutes.

Before leaving the vehicle, the young man left the driver a deposit of 50 euros for the wait and custody of his suitcase. For his part, the taxi driver gave him his mobile phone number as a guarantee.

However, when the client returned five minutes later, the taxi was no longer at the agreed place, so the young man began to repeatedly call the telephone number that the taxi driver had provided him, without obtaining an answer at any time.

Upon learning of the reported facts, the agents verified the origin of the 1,200 euros in cash that the complainant claimed to be carrying in his suitcase, which turned out to be payment for his work in a restaurant, as certified by the person who had hired him.

After taking the pertinent steps to identify and locate the taxi driver, a 35-year-old Spanish man, the agents summoned him to police stations in order to take his statement.

During it, the driver recognized the agents who had taken the client to the requested destination, but when he observed the 50-euro bill he had given him, he believed it was false, so he decided to leave and leave the suitcase abandoned next to a litter bin on Duquesa Villahermosa street.

For these facts, the suspect was arrested as allegedly responsible for a crime of misappropriation. He was later released with the obligation to appear before the judicial authority at the time his presence is required.
