The Municipal Police of Madrid have arrested a 21-year-old man accused of currency counterfeiting and fraud for selling and sending banknotes used as props in series and films to other countries through the mobile messaging application Telegram.
On the 11th, around 6:15 p.m., a patrol that was driving in a camouflaged car on Antonio López street, in the Tetuán district, observed a driver in a nervous attitude, sources from the local body informed Efe.
The agents checked the vehicle data and the owner listed a 72-year-old woman who lived in another city.
The camouflaged car of the Municipal Police followed the suspect, who finally stopped in front of an international shipping establishment, mainly to Colombia and Venezuela, on Amparo Usera street.
The young driver, who was driving with a woman, got out of the vehicle with a cardboard box full of envelopes and entered the premises.
When leaving, the agents proceeded to identify him and asked him about the merchandise with which he had entered the establishment.
After verifying that they were prop bills of 20 and 50 euros -very similar to those of legal tender-, the suspect confessed to them that he was selling them through the Telegram messaging application, a business that he also advertised on the Instagram social network.
The policemen also contacted one of their buyers, who confirmed that the tickets were practically identical to the legal ones.
