The Civil Guard has arrested this Friday in the municipality of Vilafant (Girona), a fugitive from the justice of Romania, where he was sentenced to a sentence of 17 years in prison for a crime of murder in 2006.

As confirmed by the Romanian authorities, the detainee, a 41-year-old man, was linked to organized crime in that country in which a man belonging to a rival criminal organization was shot to death.

Apparently, the man had already been arrested in 2017 for a crime against public health in the province of Girona, but they did not recognize his real identity since he was carrying false documentation.

After a meticulous search carried out by the agents of the Central Operational Unit (UCO), the whereabouts of this person have been found and he has been arrested in the municipality of Girona.

The detainee had been in search and capture for more than 10 years and was on the list managed by the European police agency Europol, in Europe’s Most Wanted, a network of police teams at a European level in charge of the active search for fugitives for the whole continent.

Thanks to the investigations carried out by the Civil Guard, together with the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Girona Command and the Interior Attaché Office of the Romanian Embassy in Spain, the fugitive’s admission to prison has already been decreed.
