The case of false accusation against the parents of a 21-day-old girl who died in La Matanza is giving rise to talk in Argentina. Both Gabriel Barrientos and Layla Melani Rivero have broken their silence and have spoken to an Argentine radio station explaining what they experienced when they were accused of allegedly abusing their daughter.
The family’s misfortune began with the death of the little girl, who suffered a cardiac arrest in a hospital in Buenos Aires. At that time, Barrientos and Rivero were arrested as allegedly responsible for her death due to sexual abuse.
As confirmed by the Argentine newspaper La NaciĆ³n, the parents were imprisoned for five days until the result of the autopsy was revealed, which determined that the newborn suffered suffocation while being breastfed.
As Barrientos recounted on the Con Vos radio station, they found out that their daughter had died while she was in jail, and they did not receive any explanation of the reason for her death. “I broke down in tears, I wanted to die,” laments the father.
During his interview on Argentine radio, he confessed that during his imprisonment they were physically, verbally and psychologically mistreated. “The police wouldn’t give me water, they told me I didn’t deserve it. I went two days without drinking water,” he says. “What we lived through was an ordeal, from the moment we entered the police station until we left. We received slaps, kicks, they did not let us or contact our family,” denounces Gabriel Barrientos.
According to the mother, they did not know the reason for their arrest, but it was at the police station when they found out. “After five minutes they separated us, they left him in the dungeon and they took me to an office,” she explains; It was at that time when they were being arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of his daughter.
The couple denounces the false accusation of the abuse of their daughter and the mistreatment they received during their time in prison. “We couldn’t say goodbye to our daughter. We couldn’t give her one last kiss,” lamented the victim’s parents. “It is the worst thing that has happened to us in life, they dirty our name. We are afraid to go out on the streets because we do not know how people will react,” they conclude.
