Brevard County deputies are investigating the death of an 80-year-old Scottsmoor man as a homicide.

Deputies found Grady Wright dead inside his home on Sunset Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Feb. 17. They came to the home after Wright’s friend asked them to check on him, Cpl. John Martinez said.

Since then, the Brevard County Medical Examiner examined the body and ruled his death a homicide, Martinez said Monday. He did not say how Wright died or release any information about possible suspects.

“The investigation to date has determined the incident to be isolated,” Martinez said Monday.

Deputies are interviewing people and looking at evidence found at the scene, Martinez said.

Wright is one of 15 people over the age of 80 killed in Central Florida since 2015, according to data from law enforcement agencies and medical examiners’ offices; Some of them were allegedly killed by family members or caretakers, sometimes in murder-suicides. Others died during apparent robberies.

Anyone with more information about Wright’s death can call Agent Don Reynolds of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office at 321-633-7162 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.
