When a tapas competition is held in a municipality, we expect to see different and innovative dishes that capture the attention of both the public and the judges. However, there are a few times when participants can break out of the mold.

This is what has happened in Aldeamayor de San Martín, a town in the province of Valladolid, which celebrates the Pincho del Villazgo Week contest and one of the members of the contest has decided to present a dish simulating a line of cocaine.

The tapa is called “a Coca-Cola chicken” and it is a bag of Coca-Cola chicken accompanied by two rows of icing sugar and a eclair filled with raspberry jam.

The author of this controversial dish is called Jonathan Casero, and he is the owner of the bar at the municipal pool. Casero told ‘El Diario de Castilla’ what his intention was with this cover: “More than a cook or hotelier, I consider myself an artist. “I like to do things that resonate with people, that attract attention, and a self-respecting artist has to do something that creates emotions.”

The cook admits that before bringing the lid to light he asked his people for their opinions to see what they thought: “I asked the family if they thought it was risky and there were all kinds of reactions. Some laughed and others, like my mother, told me that I couldn’t do something like that.”

Regarding whether anyone from the town council has said anything to him, Jonathan states that no one has contacted him to ask him to remove his dish from the bar or from the competition.
