Last summer had a clear phenomenon. Suddenly, the audience was talking about Suits as if we had gone back a decade, when it was on air and was the talk of series lovers. It was the Netflix factor, which took over the broadcast rights to the Aaron Korsh series and users were seduced by the dynamic between Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams again. And, after the renewed interest around the legal universe, the leading actors have a reunion scheduled, although not exactly as we expected.
The Golden Globes, which will be held early Sunday through Monday, have announced as one of the attractions of the ceremony that Macht and Adams will be two of the presenters who will take the stage. Therefore, those who miss the ambitious Harvey Specter and the promising Mike Ross, who practiced as a lawyer despite having a fake Harvard diploma, will have the chance to see their actors in 2024, five years after the end of the series, which said goodbye in September 2019.
It also remains to be seen if any other original cast members could have joined: Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Gina Torres and Sarah Rafferty have also been invited, according to Variety, although their presence has not been confirmed.
The press, of course, is awaiting the possible appearance of Markle, who abandoned Suits and acting in order to marry Prince Henry of the United Kingdom, and who is in low hours as a producer with her husband. In 2023, for example, her $20 million deal with Spotify ended without the company wanting to renew the contract due to poor investment performance.
Who is in a good moment, however, is Sarah Rafferty, who played Donna, Harvey’s right hand. She is in the cast of My Life with the Walter Boys, Netflix’s latest unexpected hit that has accumulated 254.2 million hours watched (33.3 million views) in its first four weeks. In the family and adolescent series, Rafferty is Katherine Walter, the mother of a large family who takes in an orphan girl, the daughter of her best friend from her university.
The question surrounding this reunion, however, is whether it could hold any additional surprises. Could it be the beginning of a resurrection or simply a tribute to his best-known series, converted into a streaming phenomenon after having been on United States cable television during its initial broadcast on USA Network?
At the moment, Aaron Korsch, the creator of Suits, is working on a project linked to this fictional universe. He does not plan to recover the original firm but is writing about lawyers in Los Angeles. It is unknown if, to unite the project and convey that it is the same legal universe, he plans to have a member of the original cast or at least the appearance of one of the actors.
