More than two months have passed since Sergio Rico was admitted to the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville. The Paris Saint-Germain player had to be hospitalized after being kicked in the head by a horse while celebrating the festivities in the Huelva town of El Rocío. Since then the goalkeeper has been recovering gradually, until encountering another obstacle: an aneurysm detected in recent weeks.
The footballer’s wife, Alba Silva, confirmed this morning before the Europa Press microphones that Rico has already undergone surgery. The journalist has responded to the questions from the media at the same time that the intervention was being carried out. In her words, the hospital team has ensured that everything would go well and that this operation would not affect the recovery of the goalkeeper, who has been on the floor for a month.
According to the explanations accredited by the URAC, a brain aneurysm is “a weak area in the wall of a blood vessel that causes it to protrude or bulge.” The operation to solve this inconvenience consists of plugging that dilated area to prevent it from causing bleeding in case of rupture. A surgical intervention that has been carried out this morning, and during which Silva has replied to the doubts of the media.
“We have a lot of trust in the professionals from Virgen del Rocío and, well, I’m sure it’s going to go well. The doctors have told us that everything is going to be fine and everyone is waiting for that”, explained the young journalist. In the same way, she has recognized her desire for this situation to pass quickly and she can return home with Rico: “Hopefully soon.” Let’s remember that her departure from her medical center was postponed two weeks ago, after the doctors wanted to carry out more tests.
“The doctors are the ones who decide and little by little he is moving forward,” Silva explained in a recent interview. A small setback that did not prevent the rest of the football world from continuing to send their support to the goalkeeper. Neymar, one of Rico’s teammates at Paris Saint-Germain, sent a fun message with a joint photograph of the rest of the squad: “We miss you, friend. Strength and come back soon because I want to score goals for you”.
Meanwhile, the investigation and resolution of the incident left many surprises. The police report revealed that there was no direct witness to the kick that knocked out Rico. Something that corroborates the statements of people close to the area, explaining that a truck scared the horse of a nearby cart. With the commotion, the colt and the rest of the animals caught up with the Sevillian soccer player, where the steed that was next to him got nervous and hit him.
